THE FISHERMEN DON'T WANT TO WORK FOR BP!!
Today, I read an article concerning the fishermen in Mississippi being upset about the payout of their claims against BP.  While yes, the fishermen can't fish the waters of the Gulf, BP has initiated a program called Vessels of Opportunity.  This program would employ the fishing boats and their crews to help with the oil cleanup in the Gulf.  They would be working the waters collecting the oil in a team spirited effort and be paid to do so.

In a town hall meeting, in Biloxi, MS on July 16, 2010, Kenneth Feinberg, the federal official in charge of administering the 20 billion dollar compensation fund setup by BP, told fishermen that the money that they will be paid for assisting in the cleanup effort would be deducted from their overal Claims they have against BP.  However, that made the fishermen mad; walking out of the town hall meeting arguing and in protest.

Huhh??

"NOW, I don't get it.  Mr. Fisherman; Mr. Boat Owner... You and your crew and your boat SIT tied up to the harbor, or wherever else you may have your boat docked.  It's Morning; It's Noon; It's Evening...  You and your crew and your boat sit idle; and not doing anything.  BP and the governement officials in place have a program where... Since you can't work fishing, you can be employ to help with the cleanup using You, Your Boat, and Your Crew."

Under the Employment of the Vessesls of Opportunity program, it's reported that each crew will be making $1,000 to $3,000 per day for their assistance.  Personally, I don't know if that pay is bad, good, or GREAT!  I do know that in an effort to get this mess cleaned up as soon as possible; and, they're not doing anything else, seems like a good thing overall for this problem that has become a plague to this country.

But, NOOOO!! You want to storm out of the town hall meeting, Scream and Holler through the town complaining... Really P.O.'d that the payment for your cleanup efforts will be deducted from the overall payment that would be due to you, from your original Claim against BP, because you can't do your normal business.  GEE... although you're not able to do your normal work; doesn't the fact that your time is being occupied working for the cleanup... and getting paid... mean something??

Let's see...Since I don't know the fishing business and the revenues that are generated, I can only provide a hypothetical scenario...

For those of you who know and understand, This is Insurance 101!
The $20 billion fund is nothing more than insurance for those who lost their working ability... Their Jobs. Only thing is... They are getting WAY better than Unemployment insurance payments.  Unemployment is only HALF OF YOUR PREVIOUS WAGES.
( Hey, for those who are unemployed... Wouldn't it be nice for the company that laid you off because of bad economics in the country to be able to file a clam against somebody to recover your wages so that you could get 100% of your lost wages and not just half?!! )

So, Mr. Fishermen, You appear to be GREEDY!  Why should you be paid twice?  If BP is paying you for a days work, why would you still get the complete amount that you claimed for a day. It appears that instead of getting $7,000/day that is due to you;
You Want $10,000/day. REALLY??  And that's fair, right?   It seems you are focusing too much energy on being MAD and Not on BASIC Math.  You are not loosing ANYTHING.  However, You are in a position to help end this plague.

The rest of us in the rest of the country can't even imagine what it's like for you, but at least, As the American Way Goes... You and your fishing business are getting full compensation for the economic loss that you are suffering.  Other companies are not so fortunate to have the government step in a make someone pay you for lost income.   AND... you Also can make a difference in speeding up the resolution to the WORST AMERICAN DISASTER, EVER!!!

Presidential Address

Let's say, as a fisherman, you normally can bring in; or, Claim, $7,000 per day revenue.  You sit around all day; boat in the dock, Fuming Idle Chit-Chat about how you're being messed over; about everything NEGATIVE because BP's well blew up and has devastated your Life. Nothing productive is being facilitated where you can say you had a hand in it.  You agree to the Vessels of Opportunity program and will put your boat and crew to work helping the cleanup effort.  Then you're told that the $3,000/day you will be paid will be deducted from the Claim that you have entered against BP.

HHmmm... If the $3,000/day is to be deducted from the $7,000/day claim, why is that NOT Fair??  The fact that you normal revenue is $7,000, but you are being paid $3,000 of it... WHY IS THAT NOT FAIR??  It's not like the $3,000 is all you're going to get.  You would still be paid the other $4,000 to cover your complete $7,000 daily revenue!!!
