Go Entrepreneur...  or, Get A New Job?
So, You lost your job.  The company had to cut back or eliminate your position.  If you're like me, you and about 89 others in the most critical department of all; Technical Customer Support... Just Got Eliminated!!

As of "Cinco de Mayo"; May 5th, 2010, I am among the many that I have written about. A Statistic of the American Economy!  I was working for one of the largest legal document repositories in the world; in their customer service department. I handled inbound technical customer service calls, assisting high-end customers with working through troubles with the company's web-based and software-based products.

Well, I think back on the description of "The New Dream" in America.  Here's an $80 Billion global corporation...  And, My Luck Ran Out?  Actually, because of the company's size and stature, I didn't see that one coming. None of the 89 Tech Support reps did.  At one point, we had "The Bobs" on site looking around and listening to the service reps. However, for the number of calls that came in everyday and the complexity of most of the products that I supported, cut-backs in customer service didn't seem feasible; nor smart.

Well, I guess that's why they didn't make me the regional overseer of customer service.  Now, I'm in a position to have to do something else diffrent.  Hmm... Entrepreneurship??

Now, one of the items that we previously called a "luxury" has now become a utility like the electric bill.  In the job search arena, you definately are required to have internet access at home!  You will spend alot of money going to the library and career transition organizations to use their internet access if you don't.

What I have found out is that sometimes making such a drastic move to lay-off a bunch of workers is beneficial to the overall organization of the company that cut you.  However, it seems that if your product "movement" or service productivity is still at this one level; and the company isn't doing as well as it wants to with "this number of people" that it had; how is it really going to do better with a lesser number of workers.  This is probably something that I'm not supposed to understand....

But, what I do understand is this. When you suddenly remove a large number of workers from an already strained department; particularly customer service, you will create nothing but mahem!  The increased workload on the lucky ones that were not chosen to be cut will overwhelm most to the point that they will wish they had gotten cut. Obviously, the department will heads will have to make "Race Horces" out of the remaining crew in order to accomplish a level of service that the company already wasn't happy with. "Duhh!!" What that will accomplish is the  diminishing moral of the remaining reps, which diminishes the customer's experience when talking to the reps on the phone. The customer experience... That is something that the customer service managers always harped on.

When you start seeing people walking around on the service floor, just looking at what you are doing on Your Job; Watch Out... It's Probably The Bobs...
